When he came to the throne as the son ofOrhan Bey , the 3rd sultan of theOttoman Empire , he thought that the principality had grown quite large and should be governed like a "state". He remained on the throne for 30 years. He always acted around this idea throughout this time. He is known as the sultan who transformed a warlike and conquering principality into a real state. He was seen as a good-hearted and compassionate father among the people because of his sympathy for the Mesnevi movement. That's why he is also called"Gazi Hünkar" . He gave the right to be the grandson ofOsman Bey , the founder ofthe Ottoman Empire , and the son ofOrhan Bey . During the 30 years he sat on the throne, he tripled the borders of the state.
