Fatih Sultan Mehmed (Mehmed II) - Sultans Series Notebook
Apart from his known warrior characteristics, Sultan Mehmed was a sultan who spoke seven languages as his mother tongue and had enough intellectual knowledge to discuss philosophy with the Italian philosophers around him while he was still a prince. After conquering Istanbul at the age of twenty-one , he was deemed worthy of the title of "Conqueror" . He founded a large library in Topkapı Palace, including the works of Aristotle and St. Thomas . Contemporary historiography began during his reign. Fatih ruled Istanbul where only Muslims lived. He thought of it as a metropolis rather than a city. He always made his decisions according to this idea. He protected the rights of non-Muslims in the city, and issued an edict on this issue and officially recognized their religion and freedom. After the conquest, Christians realized much later that the environment they called "the end of the world" was actually their own revolution . did. They called their relatives living in Europe and being persecuted to Istanbul. Fatih was a person far ahead of his time, a Renaissance and science enthusiast, as well as a war genius who went on campaign nineteen times.
