Mehmet Mez

Mehmet Mez, who was born in Ayvalık on 08.05.1946, completed primary and secondary school in Ayvalık. He graduated from Izmir Atatürk High School in 1964. He completed his higher education at Istanbul University Faculty of Economics and received his diploma in 1970.

In 1971, he married Azize Hanım, whom he met and fell in love with during his student years. Mehmet Mez, who joined the military as soon as he got married and completed his military service as a Reserve Officer, settled in Izmir with Azize Hanım. Their first child, Sanem, was born in 1972. He worked as a manager in the Izmir office of a State Economic Enterprise until 1976. In the same year, he resigned from his position and founded a business on metal products. His son Muzaffer Ali was born in 1986.

Mehmet Mez, who has not been insensitive to the issues of the country since his youth, led an active social life by reading a lot of books, participating in processes in intellectual discussion environments, operating in various non-governmental organizations and always voicing his opinions.

While Mehmet Mez lived alternately between Izmir and Ayvalık, he also produced literary works. His poetry book "Hopes Stay Green" and his story book "Soprano" were published by Kibele Publications.

Although he very much wanted his book, The Sympathizer, which he had been working on for many years, to be published, he passed away unexpectedly on 18.12.2019.

Unfortunately, our author Mehmet Mez could not see his book published.

According to his will, we are bringing you the first book of a long work he wrote based on his experiences and what he witnessed.
We will never forget our brother Mehmet, who won the hearts of everyone he met as long as he lived!
